JOSEPHMcRAE is a self-taught fashion designer whose journey into the world of design is as unconventional as the bold collections he creates. Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Joseph McRae began his academic path at North Carolina State University, where he studied Electrical Engineering. However, it was during his final semester, in March 2015, that he embraced his passion for fashion, creating his first collection and setting the stage for his future as a designer.

Joseph’s work is driven by a deeply personal mission: to blur the lines of masculinity and femininity, creating a space for daring expression, self-awareness, and confidence. His designs are a reflection of his own struggle to fit into a box, a challenge he now celebrates through his brand. "Growing up, I always found myself trying to fit into a box," Joseph shares. "Now, with my brand, I allow myself to take up space. The boldness comes from playing with shapes, structure, and silhouettes."

A distinctive feature of Joseph’s collections is his use of upholstery fabrics, which allow him to push the boundaries of form and texture. The richness of these materials helps convey his story—bold, sculptural, and filled with emotion—through colors and tactile experiences. Each piece is meticulously crafted by Joseph himself, from concept to creation, showcasing his self-taught expertise and innovative spirit.

In February 2023, Joseph moved to New York City to take his design career to the next level, immersing himself in the global fashion capital. His work challenges conventions and encourages wearers to embrace their individuality with confidence. Through JOSEPHMcRAE, he continues to redefine fashion as a space for freedom, self-expression, and exploration, where shape, structure, and daring creativity come together to tell a unique story.​
